| Like all medicines, PegIntron + Rebetol can have
side effects. The most common side effects of
PegIntron + Rebetol are: |

Flu-like symptoms; headache, chills,
sweats, body aches |
 |
Irritation or pain at the site of injection |
 |
Depression, irritability, mood swings |
 |
Itchy skin |
 |
Hair loss |
 |
Fatigue |
 |
Insomnia |
 |
Nausea |

| What can I do to manage my side effects? |
|
| Flu-like symptoms |
 |
try to administer your PegIntron + Rebetol
injection at bedtime. |
 |
try acetaminophen extra strength -
do not exceed 3 Gms/ day |
|
| Depression, irritability, mood swings |
 |
contact your Hepatitis nurse |
|
| Itchy skin |
 |
avoid long/hot baths or showers |
 |
apply non-perfumed moisturizing
cream frequently |
 |
drink plenty of fluids |
 |
contact your Hepatitis nurse |
|
| Hair loss |
 |
recognize that it is only a
temporary hair loss |
|
| Fatigue |
 |
try to administer your PegIntron + Rebetol
injection at bedtime |
 |
try to pace your daily activities |
 |
remain active with light regular
exercise |
|
| Insomnia |
 |
exercise regularly |
 |
contact your Hepatitis nurse |
|
| Nausea |
 |
drink plenty of fluids |
 |
avoid foods that increase nausea |
 |
eat small meals frequently or
"graze" |
 |
be sure to take your ribavirin
capsules with food |
 |
try gravol |
|
 |
| What should I watch for? |
|
| Although these side effects may not
occur, they may need medical attention if they do
occur. Check with your doctor or hepatitis nurse
immediately if any of the following side effects occur
during treatment: |
 |
chest pain or persistent cough |
 |
feeling depressed or hopeless, or thinking
about death |
 |
confusion, aggressiveness, hallucination |
 |
trouble sleeping |
 |
severe bleeding from your nose |
 |
lower-back or side pain |
 |
painful or difficult urination |
 |
difficulty breathing, or shortness of breath |
 |
changes in the way your heart beats |
 |
severe stomach pain, black or tar-like stools,
blood in stool or urine, feelings of numbness or
tingling |
 |
fever or chills beginning after a few weeks of
treatment |
 |
problems with your eyesight or hearing |
 |
you become unusually tired and pale, and
bruise easily |
